Professional Review

City Car Driving is a driving simulator offering you digitalized experience of urban traffic with many variables. Before you download City Car Driving, you must know: it’s no racing arcade, this time it’s serious.

City Car Driving Concept 5/5

The developers face the hard task of making the versatile city driving simulator, and they seem to encounter every aspect of driving. The virtual city offers changeable traffic rules (European or American), changing the time of day, varying weather (affecting visibility, road slipperiness and so on), other drivers and pedestrians controlled by AI and behaving like they’re alive.

You control everything about your car, including its type, design, even steering wheel position (left or right). There is an instructor telling instructions on what and when to do. After a mistake you can rewatch your driving session recorded to see where you went wrong, to make it right the next time.

Alas, this City Car Driving review is unable to tell you what it’s like to drive your virtual car with your Oculus Rift on. But trust us: games like this are the reason to get a VR headset, as it starts making sense with them.

Visuals Effects 5/5

The game is quite a big one. The installer alone is about 2GB, containing lots of cars and two virtual cities with autodromes, roads, multiple courtyards, transport interchanges, varying infrastructure, and car parks. Though the developers paid major attention to the experience itself, the game is also beautifully drawn. It’s especially great to see in Oculus Rift.

Audio Effects 5/5

The background noise of the city is pretty well combined with car sounds of starting, braking, drifting, doors clicking, and all that stuff. The developers didn’t care much about exact recreating or recording sounds made by particular models, but the game isn’t supposed to be that glamorous. The sounds do their job of indicating events and sync with these events well.

Controls 4/5

The game seems to be rather complicated at first, especially if you have never driven a real car. Keyboard shortcuts and combinations are quite numerous, and chances are you’ll have to learn over several times to remember the meaning of them all. It’s way easier with a gamepad, if you have one. We must also mention drunk driving simulation, making your controls periodically misbehave, so it may be a feature, not a bug.

Replay Value 5/5

Rich in environments and constantly changing conditions, City Car Driving is often a new game, offering a completely different experience from your previous time. Besides that, if you’re driving for fun, you can change the rules and try driving the other-sided car.

Summary

If you download City Car Driving as a virtual simulator, it won’t help you directly in getting a driver license, but probably will take you a step closer to it. Besides that, driving is fun, and the game is a rich illustration of that.

Conclusion

One of the best driving simulators is both fun and good help if you decide to learn how to drive in the real environment.

Detailed dynamic environment with daytime and weather changing;
Selectable traffic rules;
Rather low system requirements;
