Professional Review

This arcade game is definitely very unusual. I haven’t seen cats which go fishing in any games before even though it’s not a complicated idea to come up with. So, as you can assume from the title, it’s a game about a cat character that is keen on fishing and wants to catch as many fishes as possible. Cat Goes Fishing downloading is available for PC, mobile platforms and Nintendo Switch.

Graphics 4.5/5

Cat Goes fishing offers quite a nice-looking pastel cartoonish 2D graphics. It looks similarly pleasant on any gaming platform, including Nintendo Switch. There’s no claim for realism, but a very rich world of fishes underwater. All of them are fictional, nevertheless, they are very exciting and memorable. Everything is depicted in mono-colour vector graphics, and it appears to be a win-win approach to 2D arcades. Some may lack saturation in colors, but it’s just a matter of taste.

Gameplay 5/5

This game doesn’t have any sophisticated features, such as an exciting plot or realistic underwater life physics, but it is still incredibly immersive for gamers worldwide.

As you have already noticed, the main character of this game is a cute cat that is crazy about going fishing on the lakeside. At the beginner-level, it doesn’t have any specialized equipment or a boat. Fishie by fishie you have to help this smarty little creature to reach the top of the fishing mastery. This plain process of character development itself makes this game a great experience. Presumably, the secret is in a great balance between the in-game money system, the affordable items, and their preferences. The simplicity of Cat Goes Fishing is charming and relaxing. Take your cat to the lake, catch some fish, sell it, and buy some more advanced tools to catch bigger and rarer species. All fishes in the lake are extremely various and even smart. Be careful pulling the bait to save your prey from other greedy inhabitants of this replete water.

Controls 5/5

As it’s a Cat Goes Fishing review for Switch, I can’t judge about its convenience without comparing to other versions. PC is the pioneer platform for CGF, so keyboard + mouse controls are ethalone. Smartphone touch controls are not even half as good, but Switch is endowed by classic gamepad configuration that is brilliant for platformer-like arcades like this. Most actions are easily performed with sticks and triggers. The PC version of CGF fans may dislike it, due to the necessity to get accustomed again.

Replay Value 4.5/5

Cat Goes Fishing is not only about earning in-game money and buying advanced rods. It’s also about completing multiple daily challenges and beating scores in leaderboards. It’s a very lasting and pleasant time-killing experience. I have no idea how such a cute and non-stressed game can be boring or repelling. It’s a kind of little games which inhabit consoles of every gamer and wait for their short everyday sessions for years.

Conclusion

Cat Goes Fishing is a unique chamber experience of cartoonish 2D fishing. Its developers didn’t invent anything new, but they definitely managed to create a greatly-balanced platformer-simulator with an extremely cute character and a versatile underwater world. The character development system is well ramified and allows you to buy cool equipment without trying too hard. It’s a game for rest, unhurried exploration, and pacifying collecting of rare residents of the lake.

Conclusion

Downloading Cat Goes Fishing you receive a gorgeous 2D time-killer for your Nintendo Switch to spend many pleasant hours fishing.
