Professional Review

Besiege, unlike multiple strategies about castle siege, is a physical puzzle. You are required to build siege machines and use them for throwing waste on your enemies. Download Besiege if you like building and having fun.

Besiege Concept 4/5

The idea of Besiege is in no way original. The elements of it are seen in many popular games, like Angry Birds (and its spinoff Bad Piggies), Amazing Alex, C.A.T.S., and so on. You need to build a machine using what elements you have, in front of your target castle.

So, you have a building site in front of an ancient castle and a bunch of blocks to build your machine from. They can contain square wooden blocks, wheels of various sorts, rich weaponry and so on. Your machine is being built up in the air, so you can access it from anywhere. Then you put it down to the ground and move it to the target, applying installed weapons if necessary.

Each level is accompanied with a small but informative tutorial you go through as you proceed in your work. New elements are introduced eventually, and after giving it some time, you’ll be able to try Sandbox, the most creative part.

Probably this Besiege review will have to be reworked, as the game is still in Early Access, and any update may turn it all upside down. The developers have announced multiplayer mode and some more innovations they’re yet to implement.

Visuals Effects 5/5

Not as basic in its graphics as Minecraft and its followers, Besiege offers just many possibilities of building. The blocks demonstrate it visually. The game is concentrated on what you do, not how, So the blocks just have connectors on each side, it shows. The construction floats in the air for you to access it from anywhere or zoom in and out. But when it’s ready, it moves quite natural, destroying castles with spectacular effect.

Audio Effects 3/5

There are not many sounds during playing, and the music adds to overall ambience. Neither too fast nor too slow, it stimulates thinking. It’s not necessary. The sound is not what the game is meant to impress with. But the music created decent backgrounds, and sounds do their work of indicating events well.

Controls 4/5

Who said building siege machines is easy? You’ll need to work with your mouse mostly, to change the perspective, select blocks and position it, and select the action. And selecting it is probably the most complicated part: just look at those numerous buttons around the building site! It’ll take quite a while to learn them; but as you do, you’ll be fast enough.

Replay Value 5/5

Sandbox games are not that easy to exhaust. Once you get into it, you’ll want to research more and more of it. Any level can be replayed in order to improve the result. Levels are multiple. And the sandbox gives you endless opportunities at all. So we must warn you in this review of Besiege that it may cost you much more than its price, as your TV, Netflix or online radio subscriptions may remain not demanded.

Summary

Download Besiege immediately if you like games to dig in thoroughly, to explore every little detail and to progress slowly with your skill. It’s a brilliant complicated physical puzzle in full 3D, and it makes your gray matter do the work it’s supposed for.

Conclusion

Yes, if you like constructing more than destroying but are into both, download Besiege right now and spend endless evenings at it.
