Professional Review

Bigfoot (formerly known as Hunting Bigfoot) is a very specific hunting simulator. As the name suggests, the primary target you’re after is a mystical bigfoot, a creature hard to find and harder to handle. Download Bigfoot and check your hunting skills!

Bigfoot Concept 5/5

The idea of hunting an intelligent creature needs a special embodiment. You all alone (or in a team of up to four hunters) enter the cold winter forest in the Rocky Mountains, where the bigfoot has been noticed killing tourists. Your mission is to find and neutralize the creature.

You can use various equipment against the wild instincts, from rifles and flare guns to stationary cameras and drones. Attract the bigfoot with meat (better not your own), set traps, watch him detected by techs, hunt him down and immobilize to deliver where needed.

There are many dangers here; even if you’re lucky not to be caught by the bigfoot or animals like bears and wolves, you better beware not to get frozen. Your temperature is displayed on the screen; to get warmer, you can start a fire or set up the tent.

The hunting process may seem dull as you start, but then, when you learn how to use what you’ve got, you’ll find it exciting.

Visuals Effects 5/5

Like most hunting simulators, Bigfoot reaches the highest immersion with first-person view. You’re in the forest where it’s almost constantly snowing, and day and night alter. In the daytime the forest looks quite realistic, with rich details; in the night the sky shines with incredible colors, and the trees are morbid silhouettes. As for creatures, they are…. Hmm… Terrible. Just like they should be. To appreciate the night mode, dark and full of beauty, play in the actual nighttime and turn off your lights.

Audio Effects 5/5

There’s no need for background music because the forest provides the best soundtrack. The sound of your own steps, stabs or shots is accompanied with falling snow, cracking branches, flowing water, and, of course, animal roaring. Not only do they enhance the immersion, but also help you to detect where you should go for your catch.

Controls 4/5

Maybe it’s the weakest part of the game, at least, if you have no gamepad. Though the game was developed for PC, keyboard controls often fail, they refuse to react at all, or they’re just hard to detect by trying. It’s the opposite when you have a gamepad, especially Steam Controller: that changes the experience drastically, making you want to play Bigfoot more and more.

Replay Value 5/5

These games partly utilize procedural generation and AI with random selection elements so no game will be like the previous. You can also change your tactics to find and get the bigfoot sooner or, on the contrary, to maximize safety. It all amplifies when you’re playing online, and it does matter whether you are two, three, or four. So this game is very replayable.

Summary

Bigfoot is an ambitious project for a small indie studio, and the work looks even more impressing with this knowledge. This Bigfoot review was based on the version available in May 2019, but the game is still in Early Access, so changes may come. We recommend this game to any fan of hunting simulations and of all the games providing deep first-person immersion.

Conclusion

If you like realistic, fantastic and creepy first-person games, download Bigfoot for PC. Finding the actual bigfoot may be easier than a similar game of similar quality.

Pros : Great environment;
Combination of multiple realistic dangers;
Solo and online co-op gameplay;
Decent physics;
Reasonable system requirements.

Cons : Keyboard controls can be glitchy;
The pace may seem too slow;
Minor bugs still present (though it’s considered okay for early access games).
